Lexus further expands ES 300h standard safety technology
Posted on October 8, 2020 by

Lexus is continuing to build on the success of the seventh-generation ES medium luxury sedan by expanding the level of innovative driver assistance technology included as standard.

Reaffirming the Lexus commitment to world-leading safety, the ES 300h Luxury now includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert + Brake (RCTA-B), which joins the Intelligent Clearance Sonar (ICS) and Parking Support Brake (PKSB) already standard1.

This technology utilises both front- and rear-mounted sensors to detect static objects ahead and behind the vehicle, and for the first time on the ES 300h Luxury, crossing vehicles that may be approaching behind1.

Working during the vehicle’s initial forward or reverse acceleration from standstill and when the vehicle is moving at up to 15km/h, the RCTA-B, ICS and PKSB systems can firstly help warn the driver of an imminent parking or pedestrian collision.

The systems can for the ES 300h Luxury now apply braking in reverse if a driver fails to respond or provide adequate braking response to a collision1.

A Blind-Spot Monitor1 (BSM) also now becomes standard on the ES 300h Luxury for the first time.

These additions further build on the comprehensive list of the latest active safety and driver assistance technologies as part of the Lexus Safety System+1, which can help prevent an accident from happening and continue as standard.

This includes all-speed Radar Active Cruise Control (RACC) with Road Sign Assist (RSA), a Pre-Collision Safety system (PCS) with pedestrian detection and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA).

The Lexus Safety System+ joins safety technology that also continue as standard, including a reversing camera with Rear Guide Assist (RGA), 10 SRS Airbags, LED low-beam headlights with automatic high beam (AHB) and a tyre pressure warning system1.

This technology adds to the segment-leading style, luxury and convenience features offered across the Lexus ES 300h luxury medium sedan line-up.

Every ES 300h is powered by a highly advanced and refined Lexus self-charging hybrid electric powertrain with a combined 160kW of power and incredible fuel efficiency from as low as 4.8 litres per 100 kilometres8.

The 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder engine also produces 221Nm in addition to 202Nm from the electric motor to deliver spirited performance.

Lexus Australia Chief Executive Scott Thompson said the latest upgrades to the ES 300h reflects the luxury lifestyle brand’s commitment to regular updates for key models.

“Lexus wants to ensure all ES customers experience the highest level of active safety and driver assistance technology,” Mr Thompson said.

“This update also means the ES will best complement the forthcoming new Lexus IS and together provide even more desirable segment options for luxury customers.”

In 2019 the Lexus ES increased its sales performance by 183.3 per cent compared with the year prior. Along with IS, the Lexus duo increased their share of the luxury medium passenger car segment from 7.3 per cent (2018) to 8.1 per cent (2019).

So far this year (August 2020 year-to-date) the ES and IS have secured an even higher 9.6 per cent share of the luxury medium passenger car segment.

The new Lexus IS will arrive in Australia in November 2020.
