Upside helps spread R U OK? message with designer tank launch
Posted on June 17, 2016 by

An exciting partnership between suicide prevention charity R U OK? and luxury activewear brand THE UPSIDE, will culminate in the launch of the brand’s unisex tank top in support of the initiative, on June 22nd 2016 at 8am at Bondi Icebergs Club.

r-u-okThe gala breakfast event will see around 50 celebrity ambassadors and models in attendance including The Living Room’s Barry Du Bois, Dr Chris Brown, Miguel Maestre, The Loop’s Olivia Phyland, health and fitness guru Caroline Groth, Bondi Rescue’s Bruce ‘Hoppo’ Hopkins, actress Caitlyn Paterson, country music legend Travis Collins, Sydney Swans co-captain Jarred McVeigh, song and dance man Barry Conrad, influencers Nathan McCallum and Helen Chikx, to name a few.

Supporters from both organisations will model the tank for a photo with Bondi’s iconic ocean pool as a backdrop. The image will be used to promote the tank in retail outlets, including THE UPSIDE, online fashion retailer The Iconic and R U OK?s website.

THE UPSIDE founder Jodhi Meares said her team were honoured to be asked to support the suicide prevention initiative, R U OK?

“When we first started working on our own Be You campaigns, our team realised many people struggle with personal battles and stopping to ask this simple question, R U OK?, could be enormously effective.

“We have designed a unisex tank as part of our new spring collection that will be available in our stores, online and also via The Iconic from June 27, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to R U OK?”

THE UPSIDE tank Designer Ash Holdsworth said R U OK? goes hand in hand with health and wellness.

“Both THE UPSIDE and the R U OK? logo are well known and I wanted to merge them both and flip them into a smile. I wanted the design to be nothing but positive. Having a child myself, I’m very conscious there needs to be more awareness around mental health. I loved working on this collaboration, I’m so happy I could contribute.”

CEO R U OK? Brendan Maher gave a big thumbs up to the initiative.

“We’re thrilled Jodhi and THE UPSIDE team have donated their time and talents to help spread the R U OK? message. The tank is a great way for us to reach a younger, health conscious audience and get them starting important conversations. That’s not to say the tank’s not for the young at heart, as well!” he said.

“Helping create awareness and getting people asking R U OK? can help save a life.”
