Unearthing Florence Broadhurst’s forgotten designs
Florence Broadhurst Arabian Birds Wallpaper
Posted on November 2, 2018 by

For almost sixty years, Florence Broadhurst’s iconic hand screen printed wallpapers and textiles have coloured the world with luxurious patterns in rich and vibrant tones.

Born in 1899 in isolated Northern Queensland, this legendary Australian designer embodies the modern image of a female entrepreneur and businesswoman.

Her design archive grew to over 500 images ranging from tapestries to geometrics, florals, psychedelic, and delightfully eccentric Chinoiserie. Yet hundreds of these designs have never seen the light of day.

Materialised now have the exclusive Florence Broadhurst rights for both commercial textiles and wall coverings for the Australasian markets and are excited to be offering a new collection of furnishing fabrics and commercial wallpapers.

Materialised’s Role In Discovering The Archives

Materialised is a renowned provider of high-performance commercial furnishing textiles and wallcoverings, leading the textile digital revolution across Australasia for over thirty-five years.

As the new Australian home of the iconic Florence Broadhurst Design Library, this cutting-edge digital printing technology breathes new life into the range, adding versatility and unforeseen creativity for wall coverings, drapery and upholstery.

Materialised designers have unearthed original designs from the Florence Broadhurst archives and reworked these for re-release into the design world, adapting the colours to complement today’s trends, while keeping true to the colours Florence used herself.

Materialised’s inaugural Florence Broadhurst collection consists of new designs, some iconic and some not as widely recognised. Designs that will inspire and reinvigorate ‘colouring Australia.’ All can be printed onto a wide selection of base cloths, print compatible fabrics or commercial wall vinyl with no minimum order quantity.

Essentially, a beautiful collection of Florence Broadhurst prints, perfect for any project.

The new collection is now available to commercial markets from Materialised.
