The Skoda Fabia has been crowned winner of carsales’ Best First Car Award.
Summer is just around the corner and whether Aussies have just finished school or are more mature late blooming, it’s key first car buying time. So five of carsales experts whittled down a shortlist of seven contenders to determine 2019’s must-have Best First Car.
“Buying a first car is a big deal and can be a little daunting, so we’ve really tried to streamline this process for consumers and bring back a little fun and excitement,” said carsales Consumer Editor, Nadine Armstrong.
“Considering key factors such as styling, X-factor, safety and technology, we’re thrilled to announce the Skoda Fabia as our 2019 Best First Car Award winner.
“With so many terrific new models available under $20,000, we really are spoilt for choice. This year’s (2019) winner is not only safe and reliable, but also adds sporting spice to the city car mix,” Armstrong continued.
The Skoda Fabia has a strong history in winning carsales First Car comparison tests and awards. It is renowned for its build quality and reliability as well as its styling and levels of equipment. It is latest version its turbo-charged petrol engine provides a compelling blend of drivability and economy.
“The Fabia is the gift that keeps giving,” said SKODA Australia Director Michael Irmer.
“If a single car embodies our ‘Simply Clever’ ethos it is this one: small but somehow spacious, simple and inexpensive yet sophisticated, a car that punches above its weight and size – factors that carsales has recognised once again,” Irmer continued.
carsales judges scored the seven Best First Car Award contenders independently, and metrics including driving performance and safety, price and running costs, styling, technology and connectivity. Warranty, roadside assistance, insurance and re-sell value compiled by carsales partner, Redbook.com.au, were also major factors.
To be eligible for 2019’s awards, 2019 current models were price-capped at $20,000 and required automatic transmission and a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
