Improve energy efficiency in your home with Cowdroy Weather Seals
Posted on May 8, 2018 by

Energy usage and sustainability is a growing concern in Australia, with home energy consumption a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. According to Your Energy Savings, on average across Australia, 40 per cent of the energy used at home is for heating and cooling.

When it comes to designing a home or renovating an existing dwelling, incorporating ‘Passive Design’ is crucial. Passive Design helps to maintain the interior temperature of a home using little or no mechanical heating and cooling. There are a number of ways such as appropriate insulation and weather sealing that will use minimal energy – improving comfort and reducing energy bills.

The first step to Passive Design is weather sealing your home. This is done to prevent air from leaking in or out though gaps and cracks. “According to Sustainable Living Guide, weather proofing your house is important as draughts can account for up to 25 per cent of heat loss from a home in winter,” says Peter Doyle, National Business Manager, Cowdroy Australia.

Cowdroy’s Weather Seal range combats air leakage and draughts and can be integrated into any design – easily installed on to jambs, faces or edges of doors and windows. They cater for a range of different needs such as eliminating draughts, dust, rain, light and sound. Cowdroy Gap Filler is also a quick and easy option for filling gaps around door architraves and along skirting boards. See the below guidelines on how to weatherproof your home.

Internal Doors
An internal door seal will dramatically improve the functionality of your door by minimising the amount of light, sound and draughts from other areas of the home. They’re available in a range of colours and materials to suit a variety of door and floor surfaces.

Windows
To further protect your home from heavy rainfall and strong winds, Cowdroy provide Window Perimeter Seals, which are easy to install and come in a variety of sizes.

External Doors
Install a Cowdroy Weather Seal to suit your front or back entry door and minimise the effects of external elements such as wind, rain, light and sound – while improving the energy efficiency in your home.

Filling Internal Gaps
Increase the energy efficiency in your home by installing Cowdroy’s easy to use gap fillers. They have been developed to easily manoeuvre around corners and come in a range of sizes to suit your needs. Cowdroy’s Gap Fillers offer even further protection, as they are moisture resistant and highly durable.

General Purpose
The CM15 is a general-purpose seal suitable for a wide range of user-determined purposes. Offering a soft, light foam seal that is ideal for anti-rattle and vibration.

The Weather Seal range makes for a simple upgrade to increase comfort while reducing energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions. Available at all leading hardware stores.
