MR Chair
Posted on May 26, 2017 by

Following the success of our first collaboration earlier in 2017 with the launch of Aire, Schiavello has teamed up with Spanish designer Mario Ruiz for a second range, the MR Chair.

Through his desire to create classic products of modern day relevance, Ruiz was drawn to a fresh take on the shell chair concept.

Ruiz has worked on a diverse range of international projects ranging from interiors, product development to graphic design.

In 2017, Ruiz was recognized for his contributions to Spanish design and was awarded the prestigious National Design Prize from the King and Queen of Spain.

With a deep consideration of durability and quality, the chair’s shell is made from mineral fibre filled plastic, which is stronger and more durable then normal plastics.

Through extensive research and engineering, MR Chair defies the constructs of traditional plastic shell chairs, while keeping true to its shape and light form.

Marketing & Design Director, Anton Schiavello, said of the product development; “The mixture took 3 years to develop, with a lot of trial and error and testing of materials to obtain the right amount of stability and flex in the seat back. Working with a laboratory allowed us to adjust the mineral levels and create an uncompromised mixture that achieved the strength and quality desired.”

Dining spaces, home offices, training settings, outdoor spaces – the MR Chair was crafted with flexibility and was designed in response to the revolutionary changes occurring worldwide in workplace.

Mario Ruiz said of the design inspiration; “During the last 8 years, there has been a revolution in the way of working. Workers were previously more specialized and now the most valued are those who are able to solve tasks in different places and who interact well with other workers. It has not been a trend but a natural way of adapting to the situation, a way for companies to survive and thrive. Flexible and warm working spaces are closer to home atmospheres and now a current workplace challenge is to do with the lack of identity in many offices. MR Chair’s suite of options for the frame, the cushioning and the shell colour add up to 75 possible variants through which designers can respond to the particular functional and stylistic requirements of their project.”

The shell is availble in plastic, fabric, leather and vinyl applied as a fully upholstered chair or slip on cover and seat pad.

The base option includes steel tubed legs, splayed legs, cantilever legs, sled base or spider base on casters.

The RRP starts at $650 and is available in 570 D x 558 W x 790 H mm.
