Toyota Huski skid-steer loaders
Posted on February 7, 2018 by

Toyota Huskis handle Perth green-waste collection.

A leading West Australian waste collection and disposal service is using eight Toyota Huski skid-steer loaders to collect green and domestic household waste.

Steann Pty Ltd, based in Nedlands, recently added a Toyota Huski 5SDK9 skid steer loader to its fleet, the largest loader it has purchased.

The company chose the 730kg operating capacity 5SDK9 model to handle a larger purpose-made grapple than its seven earlier SDK8 models.

The combination of a larger loader and grapple increases efficiency – by reducing the number of forward and reverse movements needed to load the waste.

Steann has used Toyota Huski loaders since 2002, with a 3SDK8 model, and currently has several 4SDK8 loaders still in regular use after 10,000 hours’ service.

Company founder, Jack Groote, said the reliability and efficiency of the Toyota Huskis is outstanding.

“I have tried other brands over the years, but the running costs were prohibitive,” said Mr Groote.

“We prefer the straight-forward design of the Toyota skid steers.”

Mr Groote also praised the service support from Toyota Material Handling’s Perth branch.

“The mobile-service technicians service our loaders before 7am, ensuring they’re ready for a full day’s work,” he said.

Toyota Material Handling Perth area sales manager Paul Smith said Jack Groote has owned 11 Huskis and still has eight units in service.

“The renowned reliability of the Toyota diesel engines, hydraulics and drive system make them ideal for Steann’s operations,” he said.

“The Huskis are equipped with slick, long-wearing tyres to suit the constant on-off road application. The slick tyres are longer-wearing than treaded tyres and they don’t damage people’s lawns.”

Steann’s fleet of eight Huski loaders and 19 trucks collects green waste, E-waste and rubbish from kerbsides throughout Perth and the South-West of Western Australia, with the waste and rubbish loaded into compactor trucks and taken to a relevant sorting station.

In a sign of the company’s commitment to the environment and safety, it employs a refrigeration mechanic to de-gas any refrigerators that are left out for collection, and a fridge clamp on the Toyota Huski to allow loading onto trucks.

Toyota Material Handling offers a comprehensive range of Huski skid-steer loaders, from the compact 4SDK4 to the powerful 5SDK11. They are backed by a national network of workshops and mobile service vans.
