Toyota 86 coupe
Posted on June 16, 2017 by

Special Toyota 86 stops you in your tracks.

Toyota has expanded the pure driving pleasure of its popular 86 coupe with a limited-edition model that adds an impressive dynamic edge and an eye-catching new paint colour.

Just 60 of these exclusive cars are available in Australia, enhancing the appeal of the 86 to driving enthusiasts by fitting larger Brembo® performance brakes for supreme stopping power and specially tuned Sachs® performance dampers for enhanced stability.

The impressive dynamic enhancements are complemented by the high visual impact of unmissable Solar Orange paint – a blazing colour that achieves extra depth of tone.

The dramatic effect is heightened by a metallic black finish applied to the rear spoiler and door-mirror housings, while the exclusive exterior look is completed with a set of 10-spoke 17-inch anthracite-coloured alloy wheels.

In the cabin, the leather-accented front sports seats with perforated Alcantara® trim feature contrast orange stitching, as do the steering wheel, gear shift, park brake and door trim. The suede-like Grandlux® dashboard features an 86 logo embossed with orange stitchwork.

Based on the top-grade GTS manual variant, the 86 limited-edition performance package is priced at $41,490 – an increase of $4,550 with the premium paint.

Toyota Australia’s executive director sales and marketing Tony Cramb said the performance package is ideally suited to the car’s balanced chassis, low centre of gravity and its front-engine/rear-wheel-drive configuration.

“Whether driven on the open road or on the track, the combination of beefier brakes and uprated suspension involving two renowned performance brands is designed to further distinguish Toyota’s lightweight coupe as an authentic driver’s car,” Mr Cramb said.

The 86’s ventilated disk brakes are upgraded to ensure even better stopping power and endurance.

Substantially beefier rotors are 326mm x 30mm with four-piston calipers at the front (GTS: 294mm x 24mm) and are fitted with larger 75cm2 (54cm2) pads. The rear benefits from 316mm x 20mm rotors with two-piston calipers (GTS: 290mm x 18mm) with 32 cm2 (30 cm2) pads.

Fitment of Sachs dampers adds to the lightweight sports car’s renowned responsiveness and stability.

The limited-edition 86 is powered by a 2.0-litre aluminium horizontally opposed direct-injection four-cylinder engine. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, its maximum out is 152kW at 7,000rpm with 212Nm of torque from 6400 to 6800rpm.

Other features include keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone climate control, a 4.2-inch multi-information display, rear spoiler, privacy glass, satellite navigation1 and an upgraded multimedia system with a 6.1-inch display screen and Toyota Link2 connected mobility.

The 86 captures the spirit of Toyota’s finest sports models of the past, such as the 2000GT of the mid-1960s and the classic AE86 Corolla from the 1980s, while delivering the quality and precision expected by today’s customers.

Since arriving in Australia in 2012, the 86 has become a cult car. A regular favourite for drifting, it has also proven itself a hard-nosed and successful circuit competitor, including in the closely fought Toyota 86 Racing Series.

Almost 19,000 of the popular coupes have been sold here with two-thirds of buyers opting for the high-grade GTS variants.
