Street art-infused giftware with a sustainable edge
Posted on June 25, 2021 by

Streetart Society offers style and eco-conscious consumers giftware with an edge through a new range of planet-friendly art and homewares that boast the colourful works straight from Bondi’s world-famous seawall.

Feeding royalties back to the artists who create the Australian-defining works, Streetart Society is the passion project for graphic designer Leah Albert, a long-time devotee and resident of Australia’s best-known beachside locale.

With the help of her postcode pal Jerome James and his bondigraffiti.com site, Leah started to scratch beneath the surface of local works, discovering the incredible stories behind the street artists who help subvert this suburb’s laid back reputation.

Inspired, she saw potential in bringing the messages and works to a broader audience through a homeware collection with a difference, and some heart.

“We wanted to capture the spirit of Bondi that everyone knows and loves, via the street art they see every day on the seawall, which changes every 6 months,” said Leah. “This is a way of preserving it forever and taking a piece of it home.”

“The ethics behind Streetart Society were important to establish from the outset. And the first artist I signed was Taiya Bukovsky – her incredibly positive energy really shines through her works, which also define our branding.

“Another highlight was signing resident surfer and lifeguard Luke Kennedy’s (@mynameisLK) new North Bondi mural. This piece will be a backdrop to the lives of so many people here in Bondi for years to come – it’s a true honour to share this with the rest of the world”.

Further street artist signings include renowned names: Mulga the Artist, Lily Keenan, Jenna Bloom, Rachel Giddens and Charlie Nivision and their pieces adorn artworks, eco bottles, cushions and giftware that embody the colour, energy and creativity found throughout the pavements and sidewalks in Bondi.

“I manufacture locally where possible, use recycled stock with small runs and completely avoid plastic packaging. Our bestselling Eco Bottles are handprinted to order, the quality cushions are printed and handmade in Sydney and we keep our runs small.” says Leah.

“Each piece features an artist message and connects customers to the individual artist profiles. My aim is to build the business enough to become involved in aligned community initiatives and expand it to street art from a range of regions, artists, themes and causes.”
