Abigail Edward’s new wallpaper design ‘Lichen’ began as a gouache painting, which was worked into with pen to give a textural illusion before being printed on traditional rollers.
Lichen is so often uncelebrated and unnoticed. It doesn’t have beautiful bright flowers, it isn’t glamorous, but the intricate structures and endless shades of dusty grey greens in this group of organisms are delicately beautiful and despite their apparant fragility can survive for hundreds of years. Lichen will only grow where the air is pure, so if you spot some on a gnarly tree or a hidden rock, you can be reassured that you are breathing clean air.
Lichen wallpaper is available in two colourways Seaweed and Dust and is priced at £92 a roll.
Roll size 10m x 52 cm, repeat 42cm.
Lichen is made from non-woven ‘paste the wall’ wallpaper and is made at one of the few remaining family run traditional wallpaper printers using water based ink which is environmentally safe; and is printed on an FSC certified responsibly sourced non-woven base.
