All too often parents hand their tiny tots their phone or an Ipad when they are out and about in an effort to buy themselves more time. It is important though, that parents do not rely on screen time at home.
The World Health Organisation suggests that any “sedentary time” i.e, those short periods in the day when your little one is not moving around, should be devoted to reading stories and playing quiet games and not sitting in front of a screen.
It’s so easy to be present with your child if you use prompts such as stylish number flashcards for fun and engaging hands-on, early learning. Flash cards are a perfect and thoughtful gift for a wide range of ages from newborn to school aged children and start as black and white as Newborns can only focus about eight to 12 inches from their face, and they see only black, white and grey. As their colour vision begins to develop this will give children a solid foundation in their education and inspire a lifelong love of learning through an exploration of number recognition, counting, sorting, adding, subtracting and more!
Cards are also a great way to give your little loves a head start on their education by learning their ABCs and their animals. As they age you can even get creative by combining letters to form their own name and practice spelling for Kindy.
If you feel the need to decorate, you can’t go past wall decor that has a hidden agenda. Prints that teach letters and numbers are also a great way to actively teach your child and you spend quality time.
My top tip is always to get down to their level and make eye contact. These moments will not last forever so enjoy them.
